Laura Bow 1: Game Technical Help
So far, I have found no real technical problems with Laura Bow 1: The Colonel’s Bequest, except perhaps for sound card and Windows incompatibilities. If you are missing your manual and do not have the fingerprint chart to get past the game’s copyright protection at the beginning, then you need to obtain a new manual directly from Sierra Customer Service. If you have a collection version of the game, look at the various folders on all the CD-ROMs because Sierra may have included a copy of the fingerprints on there. There are no patches or online technical documents for this game.

Laura Bow 1 Installation Procedures
You should not be in Windows. If you are in Windows, quit now. Insert the CD with the Laura Bow 1 game and change to that drive. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is D:, type D: [ENTER]. From the D:\>, type:
CD\LB1 [ENTER]
INSTALL [ENTER]
Follow the on-screen prompts. When you reach the Installation Options screen, make sure the settings are correct. Older games often detect today’s 16-bit sound cards incorrectly, so check the MUSIC setting. You will probably get the best sound with the SOUNDBLASTER/ADLIB choice. For best game performance, select “Do not use extra memory” for the MEMORY option.

If you are needing to replace your old Laura Bow game or wish to buy one, your best bet is to find used copy from an independent seller or trader off places like Ebay Auctions or Game Trading Zone. Note that while you can get Laura Bow 1 on CD-ROM in the King’s Quest Collection or the Roberta Williams Anthology, you cannot get that game on a CD-ROM by itself. It will have to be in a collection. Also, CD-ROM collections have the exact same version as the Laura Bow 1 floppy diskette games. Therefore, if you were wanting a remake version for your Laura Bow 1 game, you will not find it since you have the one and only version.
